Atenas named after Athens Greece is a small town about an hour s drive north of San Jos capital city of Costa Rica There are about 5 000 people in the town itself and about 17 000 if you count the surrounding suburbs Most people here are in the agricultural industry working in fruit orchards or coffee plantations Indeed Atenas has been described as a blue collar town with friendly welcoming people Luxury real estate in Atenas Costa Rica is available of course as lots of folks who work in San Jose choose to live here far away from the hustle and bustle of that huge city There s a weekly farmer s market a botanical garden and even an animal rescue facility nearby
Juan Santamar a International Airport is located to the west of San Jose proper which is nice for those folks heading for Atenas and points west because they don t actually have to go into the city They can rent a car and continue on their journey and there s also bus service as well Atenas is only about an hour s drive away if that Atenas luxury homes or villas can be found in the foothills with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains There are also the ubiquitous coffee plantations and fruit orchards Residents of Atenas can travel to the big city whenever they desire for a night out on the town to go to a night club or attend the theatre before returning to the quiet surroundings of Atenas About an hour s drive to the west are the Pacific coast beaches which are of course also highly popular as day or weekend trips
